This study carrel "soft space" was designed for a Master's thesis project by architecture student Shawn Keltner. The surface geometry was created in Rhino and sliced into 4'x8''x4" volume sections for import into MasterCam. Toolpaths were created from each of these sections and milled out of foam sheets on IAD's custom large scale gantry mill. These sheets were then glued together to form the final finished structure. The project demonstrates IAD's capabilities for large scale prototype fabrication at reasonable cost.
