Biaxial Shear Apparatus
The biaxial apparatus is designed to allow free shear-band formation in soil specimens once the load reaches a critical value. The device is placed in a load frame, and two sides are contained while force is applied to the top of the specimen. The base is mounted on a linear slide providing motion in only one direction. This displacement allows measurements to be made when failure occurs.
