Rapid Prototyping
Industrial Art and Design offers fused deposition modeling (FDM) rapid prototyping on a Stratysys Dimension printer. FDM parts are fused ABS plastic with roughly 75% the strength of regular ABS and can be used structurally. They can also be sanded and painted; they are invaluable for on-the-fly research projects. New parts with complicated geometries can be made quickly and inexpensively to accommodate evolving designs. Below are some examples from projects in the aerospace and biomedical engineering fields:

Price is based on part volume, for larger non-structural parts a sparse build mode can be used to save material and money. Colored ABS plastics are available as well.
